The data engineering team at blithequark plays a vital role in partnering with various stakeholders, including Decision Science Products, Decision Science, Client, and Technology colleagues, to deliver high-quality data pipeline and database engineering services. As a key member of this team, you will have the opportunity to work on diverse development and sustainment projects, ad-hoc requests, prototyping, and research initiatives.

Job Description and Responsibilities

The blithequark Decision Science and Innovation (DDSI) association is responsible for supporting clients across blithequark, including the Parks, Experiences, and Products segment, which encompasses Parks and Resorts, both domestic and international, Consumer Products, and Disney Brand Experiences, as well as the Disney Entertainment segment, which includes Studios Content, General Entertainment Content, and ESPN and Sports Content.

As a Data Engineer at blithequark, you will be responsible for managing the development and sustainment of products for the Media business. Your work will involve various data engineering activities, such as maintaining and improving data acquisition processes, data validation processes, ETL/ELT data pipelines, and overall process alerting strategies.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Gathering data requirements and creating source-to-target mappings
  • Developing and reviewing data validation scripts and data pipelines
  • Designing and executing database schema/tables/views and delivering datasets as input to science models and representations
  • Creating and monitoring ETL/ELT data pipelines and data workflows
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless data integration and analysis

Essential Qualifications and Skills

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field
  • 2+ years of experience in ELT/ETL data pipeline development and maintenance
  • Proven expertise and proficiency in using Python and SQL (preferably with Snowflake)
  • Experience with developing in a multi-environment (Dev, QA, Prod, etc.) and DEVOP practices for code management/development
  • Experience creating and maintaining automated job schedulers
  • A solid understanding of relational database design and functionality

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

To stand out as a candidate, you should have:

  • Experience working with large datasets and big data technologies, preferably cloud-based, such as Snowflake, Databricks, or similar
  • Proficiency in cloud architecture and product offerings, preferably AWS
  • Experience managing and deploying code using a source control tool like GitLab/GitHub
  • Experience using Docker and containerization
