Our centers offer individualized instruction in Comprehension, Reading, English, Writing, Math, and Study Skills, as well as ACT/SAT Test Prep and STEM programs. Job Summary
We are seeking experienced retired teachers to join our team as part-time tutors, providing individualized instruction to students in a variety of subjects. As a tutor at Sylvan Learning Centers, you will have the opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of students, while enjoying a flexible schedule and a competitive salary. Our centers are open 7 days a week, and we require our tutors to work at least one day during the week and one day on the weekend.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide individualized instruction to students in a variety of subjects, including Reading, English, Math, and Study Skills
- Teach using Sylvan-based programs and materials
- Direct and motivate students during instruction
- Reward students for successful work and evaluate and document student progress
- Communicate student needs to our Educational Team and develop rapport with students to establish a fun and engaging learning environment
- Maintain a positive attitude and demonstrate enthusiasm for teaching and Sylvan
Requirements
* Education/Teaching Degree required or in-process for Reading/English tutors
- Strong proficiency through Algebra 2 (Education Degree a plus, but not required) for Math tutors
- Strong ACT/SAT score (30/1400 preferred) for TestPrep (ACT/SAT) Tutor
- Tutoring experience preferred
- Strong communication skills and the ability to multi-task
- Ability to make connections with students
- Working out of one of our locations in Lake Zurich/Barrington or Schaumburg
