Senior Instructional Designer, Part-Time or Full-Time Headquartered in Washington, DC, Softek Services, Inc. offers over 35 years of experience providing custom training and IT solutions. We are looking for a Senior Instructional Designer with 10 + years ofexperience in adult learning and excellent analytical, technical writing, and performance-based training development skills. This role involves enhancing current or developing new instructor-led training (ILT) and web-based training (WBT) that is performance-based and learner-centric for federal agencies across multi-year contracts. Applicants must have experience with the full instructional design lifecycle for e-learning and instructor-led training: analyzing position/duties, designing appropriate training plans, and developing training using effective learning strategies. Additionally, applicants should be detail-oriented with strong facilitation, analytical, and technical writing skills. Creativity also helps to make impactful training that users actually want to take. Job Type: W2 Employee (Part-Time or Full-Time) or 1099 Contract Job Location: Primarily remote work with travel 4 to 6 times per year (for one week at a time) to meet with clients for focus groups and pilot course deliveries. Required Education & Years of Experience

  • Degree in Instructional Design, Education, Curriculum Design, Organizational Development, Adult Learning, or related field.
  • 10+ years of course development and instructional design experience in adult learning.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Apply adult education and performance-based principles to develop learner-centered training plans that produce measurable results.
  • Analyze what needs to be changed, updated, reorganized, improved, and included in new or updated training curriculum.
  • Produce engaging and effective instructional content for various learning modalities (self-directed, web-based, pre-work, instructor-led, on-the-job, etc.).
  • Use a blend of cognitive, effective, and behavioral learning domains that help adults learn.
  • Design realistic scenario-based activities, simulations, roleplays, drills, etc., that require critical thinking for performance-based training.
  • Write new content that is technically accurate and grammatically sound.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to gather information and ensure content accuracy and relevance.
  • Develop storyboards, including graphics concepts, audio scripts, user interactions, navigation, and other related elements.
  • Create (or direct a graphic designer to create) visual aids, including infographics, charts, graphs, and videos to support learning.
  • Create knowledge checks and performance-based assessments that support learning outcomes.
  • Proofread and edit instructional materials for accuracy and clarity.
  • Contribute to proposal development as needed.

Required Skills

  • Strong instructional design background with experience in content development.
  • Ability to gather and analyze data about needed content and desired performance.
  • Understanding of adult education principles and instructional design models.
  • Strong analytical, technical writing, and editing skills.
  • Ability to convey and document complex information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Experience with e-learning authoring tools such as Adobe Captivate or Articulate Storyline.
  • Ability to be flexible, adaptable, and work in a fast-paced and agile environment as a team player.
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively.
