Introduction to Workwarp and Mounds View Public Schools

Key Responsibilities

As a Math Teacher, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Communicating and collaborating with professional staff to determine and coordinate standardized curriculum and testing/assessment designs
  • Creating, formulating, developing, and implementing instructional objectives and activities
  • Conducting classroom instruction, individual tutoring, and counseling based on teacher-created lesson plans and instructional units
  • Assessing student performance to determine need for re-instruction and alternative methods
  • Creating a supportive learning environment by using appropriate verbal and non-verbal reinforcing techniques
  • Prioritizing tasks to enable the efficient use of time and determining potentially harmful situations to avoid exposure of students
  • Providing time for students to relearn and evaluating student abilities and health status to determine needs and adapt appropriate responses
  • Diagnosing, summarizing, and interpreting student strengths, weaknesses, problems, and progress for reports to parents and other school personnel
  • Responding to student needs, providing information and guidance, and serving as a student advocate

Essential Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need to have:

  • A current MN teaching license in math for grades 5-12, 7-12, or 9-12
  • Skilled in culturally responsive teaching, effective communication, and learning strategies
  • Ability to use multiple approaches when learning or teaching new things and to listen actively to what other people are saying
  • Social perceptiveness, being aware of others' reactions and understanding why they react the way they do
  • Knowledge of instructional methods and training techniques, including curriculum design principles, learning theory, and group and individual teaching techniques
  • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language, including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar
  • Knowledge of human behavior and performance, mental processes, psychological research methods, and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders
  • Knowledge of numbers, their operations, and interrelationships, including arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications

Preferred Qualifications

While not essential, the following qualifications are preferred:

  • Experience in teaching math to students in grades 5-12
  • Ability to design and assess student learning, create scope and sequence, and coordinate within a department
  • Experience in creating and implementing instructional objectives and activities
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, determine potentially harmful situations, and provide time for students to relearn
  • Experience in evaluating student abilities and health status to determine needs and adapt appropriate responses
