Job Summary

The High School Science - Chemistry Teacher will be responsible for teaching occupational, career, and technical subjects to students at various District schools. This role requires a strong foundation in chemistry and a passion for education, as well as the ability to adapt to diverse student needs and learning styles.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that cater to the needs and abilities of students
  • Teach chemistry and other related subjects to high school students, using various teaching methods and approaches
  • Assess student progress, administer tests, and provide constructive feedback to foster academic growth
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop and refine school programs, ensuring alignment with District goals and objectives
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and guardians, providing guidance and support as needed
  • Maintain accurate records, prepare reports, and perform other administrative tasks as required
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices and advancements in the field
  • Supervise and direct the work of paraprofessionals, as needed

Qualifications and Requirements

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college
  • Valid Connecticut State Board of Education teaching certificate with Chemistry 7-12 (031) endorsement
  • Knowledge of core curriculum areas, educational philosophy, and teaching methods
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to adapt to diverse student needs and learning styles

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching chemistry or related subjects at the high school level
  • Familiarity with Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and Scientific Research Based Interventions (SRBI)
  • Knowledge of instructional technologies and multimedia resources
  • Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and abilities
