About Google's Data Center Engineering Team

Behind Google's simple search container lies one of the most complex technology infrastructures in the world. Our Data Center Engineering team is responsible for taking the physical design of our data centers into the future, and our Technical, Engineering, and Support groups bring ideas to life. We're committed to reducing operational costs and pushing the boundaries of conventional practices to make our data centers the most energy-efficient and environmentally sustainable in the world.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to repairs, upgrades, deployments, and cabling, ensuring the smooth operation of our data center infrastructure.
  • Identify trends for system failure, document bugs, and collaborate with remote teams to resolve them.
  • Communicate effectively with customers and partners, providing exceptional support and service.
  • Contribute to projects in deployment and maintenance, and provide support for current and new data center infrastructure.
  • Configure and troubleshoot Linux OS-related challenges on our servers, and resolve critical or escalated technical issues across a large population of affected equipment.

Minimum Qualifications

To be considered for this role, you must meet the following minimum qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD diploma in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • Experience working with a Network or Linux system.
  • Ability to communicate fluently in English.

Preferred Qualifications

If you possess the following preferred qualifications, you'll be an even more competitive candidate:

  • Familiarity with the fundamental standards of Network and Linux systems.
  • Ability to understand and expand data center architectures, products, system design, operations, maintenance, and procedures.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to apply tools to provide highly accurate analyses that ensure designs meet protection requirements.
  • Available to work full-time for at least 6 months outside of college term time.

To excel in this role, you'll need to possess a combination of technical skills and soft skills, including:

  • Strong technical knowledge of data center infrastructure, including Linux OS and Network systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to apply tools and techniques to resolve complex technical issues.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work with remote teams and stakeholders.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work in a fast-paced environment.
