We are seeking an experienced Academic Support Specialist – Strategy Tutor to join our team at the University of Texas at Austin. As a key member of our Texas Athletics Student Services team, you will play a vital role in supporting the academic development of our student-athletes and helping them to achieve their full potential.

Responsibilities

As an Academic Support Specialist – Strategy Tutor, you will be responsible for providing one-on-one academic support to student-athletes, helping them to develop strong study habits and the skills they need to become independent learners. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing individualized academic support to student-athletes, including tutoring, mentoring, and coaching
  • Developing and implementing academic support plans tailored to the needs of each student-athlete
  • Monitoring student-athletes' daily academic preparation and providing feedback and guidance as needed
  • Teaching relevant study skills and time management strategies to student-athletes
  • Encouraging student-athletes to use available tools and resources, including syllabi, calendars, content tutors, and campus resources
  • Implementing learning practices and techniques designed and requested by Learning Specialists
  • Completing brief written reports regarding work with student-athletes and maintaining regular communications with Learning Specialists and staff
  • Performing other duties as assigned

  • A strong background in education, with a focus on academic support and student development
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with student-athletes, Learning Specialists, and other staff members
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities
  • A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, with the ability to work effectively with students from diverse backgrounds and experiences
  • A strong understanding of NCAA regulations and policies, with the ability to ensure compliance in all aspects of your work

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following qualifications are highly desirable:

  • Teaching experience, with a focus on academic support and student development
  • Pursuing a degree or career goal in education
  • Salary Range: $20 +/hour depending on qualifications/relevant experience
