The Role: Director, Government Affairs

As Director, Government Affairs, you will report to our Vice President of Public Policy and be responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive strategy to support Serve Robotics' growth and expansion. You will be the face of our company in the policy arena, building relationships with lawmakers, governmental agencies, nonprofits, and other stakeholders to advocate for the future of autonomous delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with lawmakers, governmental agencies, nonprofits, and other stakeholders to advance Serve Robotics' interests
  • Identify, monitor, and analyze policy issues affecting Serve Robotics across North America, providing actionable insights and recommendations
  • Articulate our public policy positions through briefing memos, advocacy letters, blog posts, and other external facing documents
  • Represent Serve Robotics before legislative and regulatory bodies, at townhalls, and in oral testimony, showcasing our expertise and vision
  • Collaborate with functional and technical team members to ensure alignment and effective execution of government affairs strategies
  • Provide regular reports and updates to senior management on government affairs activities, outcomes, and key performance indicators, as well as the performance and development of the broader public policy team
  • Work closely with product and operations teams to inform product expansion strategies and build positive storytelling and acceptance in the regulatory space
  • Manage external firms, lobbyists, trade associations, and other 3rd party groups on behalf of the company, ensuring effective partnerships and outcomes

Qualifications and Requirements

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • 8+ years of experience in government relations, public policy, political organizing, legislative staffing, public affairs, or a related field, with a proven track record of success
  • 5+ years of experience working with policymakers across different political parties, with a deep understanding of the legislative process and stakeholder dynamics
  • Familiarity with legislative cycles, processes, operations, best practices, strategies, workflows, and stakeholder correspondence
  • Experience managing consulting teams and lobbyists, with a strong ability to drive results and achieve objectives
  • Strong writing and presentation skills, including the ability to prepare briefing documents, analyses, policy and legislative recommendations, correspondence, requests for information, and other legislative documents
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with experience speaking at conferences, attending and staffing official engagements, events, meetings, and travel
  • A proven ability to engage with internal and external stakeholders at all levels, including executives, and build effective relationships
  • A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, with a strong academic foundation and a commitment to ongoing learning

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated success in developing and implementing government relations strategies, preferably in the tech or micromobility sectors
  • Experience working with business operations, financial, and legal team members, with a strong understanding of the intersections between policy and business
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and public speaking skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences and build consensus
  • Proficient in setting clear objectives and meeting them, with the ability to measure and communicate the impact of government relations initiatives
