Job Summary

As a Driver License Examiner - Temporary Solutions, you will be responsible for administering eligibility tests, evaluating persons applying for classified Driver License, Commercial Driver License, Learners permits, and ID cards. You will use your exceptional customer service skills to confirm applicant's knowledge of NC Motor Vehicle laws, identification of road signs, checking vision, and observing/evaluating driving skills by riding with the customer in their personal vehicle on a road test in all types of weather. You will serve as a public advisor to identify any possible health concerns with drivers, advise customers of adjunct service programs available, and ensure applicant data and court-ordered information is entered accurately into internal systems for reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Administer eligibility tests and evaluate persons applying for Driver Licenses, Commercial Driver Licenses, Learners permits, and ID cards
  • Confirm applicant's knowledge of NC Motor Vehicle laws and identification of road signs
  • Check vision and observe/evaluate driving skills by riding with the customer in their personal vehicle on a road test in all types of weather
  • Serve as a public advisor to identify any possible health concerns with drivers and advise customers of adjunct service programs available
  • Ensure applicant data and court-ordered information is entered accurately into internal systems for reporting
  • Provide exceptional customer service to a diverse clientele
  • Work collaboratively with other team members to achieve department goals

Requirements and Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:

  • Graduation from high school
  • At least two years of clerical, administrative, or paraprofessional experience involving the resolution of varied public contact situations which include interviewing and/or explaining information of considerable detail
  • Possession of a valid North Carolina Driver License with no suspensions or revocations within the past 10 years in any state for any motor vehicle-related offense and no more than 5 active points

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience explaining policy, procedure, and/or laws to educate customers or the public
  • Customer service experience with a diverse clientele
  • Knowledge of basic computer software, including database programs and Microsoft Office applications
  • Experience in evaluation of information or documents to make determinations for actions
  • Experience working as a collaborative team player using problem-solving skills to work out solutions for delivery
  • Experience composing written communication using typing skills
