Retail Team Member

Role and Responsibilities: Team Members provide support across customer service, stocking, and sanitation duties in assigned departments, while upholding Whole Foods Market core values, goals, and quality standards. All roles require adherence to Standard Operating Procedures, health and safety regulations, and company policies.

• Work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Perform opening, mid, and closing duties as assigned.
• Prepare, store, rotate, and stock products according to department procedures.
• Prepare, package, weigh, and price products for sale.
• Monitor product quality and freshness, ensuring proper rotation.
• Keep cases and shelves clean, stocked, and organized.
• Complete spoilage, sampling, temperature, and sweep logs as required.
• Assist with periodic inventory checks.
• Arrive on time, appropriately groomed, dressed, and ready to work all scheduled shifts; attend required trainings and meetings.
• Provide excellent customer service, addressing customer needs promptly and courteously; answer phones and pages in a professional manner.
• Maximize sales potential through effective prepping, storing, rotating, stocking, and merchandising of products.
• Follow and ensure compliance with Weights and Measures, health and sanitation, and safe work practices.
• Maintain a clean, sanitary, and safe working and shopping environment; keep equipment maintained according to cleanliness and safety standards.
• Ensure signs and pricing are accurate.
• Report safety hazards and violations immediately.
• Perform other duties as assigned by store, regional, or national leadership.

Required Skills and Experience:

• Ability to learn basic knowledge of all products carried in the department.
• Ability to visually examine products for quality and freshness.
• Read labels and familiarize yourself with various products.
• Strong communication skills and willingness to work as part of a team.
• Ability to deliver information clearly to Team Members, customers, and vendors.
• Meet customer service standards in all interactions.
• Follow directions and procedures with effective time management and organizational skills.
• Passion for natural foods and the mission of Whole Foods Market.
• Strong work ethic and ability to work in a fast-paced environment with urgency.
• Understanding of and compliance with Whole Foods Market quality goals.

Physical Requirements / Working Conditions:

• Ability to lift 50 pounds.
• Stand/walk 6-8 hours in an 8-hour workday.
• Use of hands for single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing, and pulling.
• Perform bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching motions.
• Exposure to FDA-approved cleaning chemicals.
• Work in temperature ranges: below 32°F (freezing), 32-40°F (refrigerated), and above 90°F.
• Ability to work in wet and/or cold environments.
• Operate tools and equipment including box cutters, knives, electric pallet jacks, forklifts, hand trucks, six-wheel carts, balers, and other heavy machinery.

Preferred Qualifications:

• No prior retail experience required.
