Summary This position is located at one of the various Indian Health Service hospitals under the Navajo Area Office. The primary purpose is to provide care in the Operating Room (OR) with a full range of nursing proficiency. - Observes and assesses patient's health status and critically ill emergency patients by physical assessment and examination.
- Initiates treatments, medications, emergency and resuscitative measures.
- Administers therapeutic measure as prescribed by the anesthesiologist, physician and surgeon.
- Operates and monitors specialized equipment in operating room or same day surgery.
- Collaborates with members of the surgical and multidisciplinary teams.
- When called in for emergency surgeries after hours, holidays or weekends, functions as a team leader and supervises movements and action of other team members. Total independence is exercised and accountability is at maximum.
- Maintain certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) ( TNCC not required but encouraged to have).
- Possession of a master's degree in professional nursing; or
- At least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-7 grade level or above) and possession of a diploma, associate degree, or bachelor's degree in nursing from a professional nursing program. Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of Professional Nursing Experience to at least the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Provide a wide range of professional nursing duties according to established professional nursing principles, practices, concepts and procedures in the Operating Room (OR) setting for peri- and post-operative care of recovering surgical patients; manage and treat patients with peri- and post-operative problems; perform highly specialized nursing assignments appropriate to the various age of the patient served; maintains, monitors and operates specialized equipment and instruments for surgical procedures; assess patient condition; provides nursing care and advises on health care needs with full consideration of mental, emotional, cultural, social and physical factors.
- Applicants must have at least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or above) and possession of a diploma, associate degree, bachelor's degree or master's degree in nursing from a professional nursing program. Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of Professional Nursing Experience to at least the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Independently provide a wide range of professional nursing duties according to established professional nursing principles, practices, concepts and procedures in the Operating Room (OR), educate on post-operative care; manage and treat patients with peri- and post-operative problems; perform highly specialized nursing assignments appropriate to the various age groups of patients served and to assure proper care of patients; maintains, monitors and operates specialized equipment and instruments for simple to unexpected complications of surgical procedures; provides nursing care and advises on health care needs with full consideration of mental, emotional, cultural, social and physical factors; recognize adverse signs of symptoms, problems and react promptly in emergency situations; act as a preceptor and provide instruction and direction to lower level nurses, communicate and interact with multidisciplinary health care team.
