As an Advanced Practice Nurse, you are an invaluable member of the inter-professional health care team. You contribute knowledge and expertise to optimize patient-driven care and advance IHS goals for improving access to care. You help provide safe, effective, high-quality care as part of a dynamic team in our hospitals, health centers, health stations, and clinics. Duties include analyzing and interpreting patients' histories, symptoms, physical findings, or diagnostic information to develop appropriate diagnoses; developing treatment plans based on scientific rationale, standards of care, and professional practice guidelines; prescribing medications based on efficacy, safety, dosage and frequencies; educating patients and tailoring instructions to patients' individual circumstances. Most of our sites hire Nurse Practitioners for outpatient positions, as primary care providers (preferred candidate is FNP). Some sites may have more specialized positions, including Anesthesia, Midwifery, Psychiatric Mental Health, Behavioral Health/Psychiatric, Emergency, Pediatric, Women's Health. - Background Investigation: If you are selected for this vacancy, you must undergo a pre-employment fingerprint check and background investigation. Fingerprint results and background investigation documentation must be cleared prior to hire. After you begin your employment, your continued employment is contingent upon the outcome of a complete background investigation as determined by the sensitivity level of your position. The investigation must find that you are suitable for Federal employment in your position. If you are found not suitable, you will be terminated after you begin work. - Applicants who meet the above APN education and licensure requirements qualify for the GS-9.
- Applicants currently enrolled in a professional nursing program and expect to obtain APN licensure within 9 months.
- Successful completion of a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field.
- At least one full year of professional advanced practice nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-9 grade level)
- In addition to the mandatory license and education described above under Basic Requirements applicants must have at least one or more full years of professional advanced practice nursing experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level.
